Getting Graphic with Artist Molly Crabapple

New York-based artist, author, and founder of the international Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, the always graphic and graphical Molly Crabapple is coming to the Bay Area this weekend to promote the release of her first graphic novel, Scarlett Takes Manhattan, co-authored by her longtime collaborator John Leavitt. Coilhouse Magazine gives fans the following insider’s perspective of the book:

"Molly’s florid style blends with John Leavitt’s writing to reveal 1880s New York’s fleshy underbelly. We peek behind closed doors, over corrupt politician’s shoulders and under ruffled skirts as Leavitt and Crabapple show an uninhibited girl of humble beginnings traipse through manual labor and sex work to become queen of Vaudeville. Sex is celebrated, morality is, surprisingly, maintained and show business gets a new star when the smoke clears.”

Comic Relief in Berekely, CA, will host a reading and book-signing by Crabapple on Sunday, July 12. True to the risqué form and fashion of both her graphic novel and her life, this event will include a small-scale and intimate Dr. Sketchy's with the vivacious burlesque diva Sparkly Devil . For those Crabapple fans desiring even more erotic indulgence, a full four-hour Dr. Sketchy’s will take place on Monday, July 13, at San Francisco's 111 Minna, featuring the tiny, yet fierce, modeling of  Mynx D'Meanor. The best part about any Dr. Sketchy's event is that all are welcome, from talented artists who want to sketch the beautiful models to the artistically challenged who can simply sit at the bar as voyeurs... I mean, observers.
